memory

Memory is an important process to understand events that happen in the present.
There are two main types of memories: Short-term memory [or working memory] and long-term memory.
The working memory is the one which allows you to understand, for example, the meaning of the dialog in a conversation. That is to say, of codifying what has just being spoken to you.
Conversations and writing practising are important to help to work out this kind of memory.

Many factors contribute to determining whether particular short-term memories are transferred into the long-term store or are simply forgotten.
The distinction between short-term and long-term memory provides a focus for thinking about how the brain is altered by the formation of a memory.

Life would be pretty difficult without the ability to store and recall certain facts of our daily life, such as the way home from school or work, the names of our family’s members, addresses, etc. These are explicit or semantic memories and they constitute our declarative knowledge, which is essential to the understanding of the world we live in.

The difference between short-term and long-term memory is found in how the brain suffers alterations with regard to the recollections. On one hand the process that happens with memory of short term is passenger, on the other hand the changes with long-term memory are permanent.
Experimentation in animals shows that the formation of memory presents alterations in the synapses of our neurons, producing shortcuts.

Our short term and long-term memories are encoded and stored in different ways and in different parts of the brain, for reasons that we are only beginning to guess yet. Years of case studies of patients suffering from accidents and brain-related diseases and other disorders begun to indicate some of the complexities of the memory process, and great strides have been made in neuroscience a cognitive psychology, but many of the exact mechanisms involved remain elusive.

Memory also helps to acquire knowledge, which is a consequence of learning how to do something difficult like driving a car, tie a tie, braid hair, etc. These skills that are acquire, once they’re learnt they’re never forgotten.

Another type of memory is episodic memory, which corresponds to our memories of past events or episodes.
Episodic memories are personal, highly selective, idiosyncratic, and possibly false. Episodic memories can be recalled deliberately or are triggered by evocative sensory stimulation.

Labeling these types of memories isn’t just about how long they remain in our conscience, but about where exactly in our brain they’re located. Explicit working memory, for example, is associated with the pre-frontal cortex.

Structural brain scanning studios showed that hippocampus stores detailed mental maps that help us to navigate.

A crucial target of adapting change in the brain of any animal is synapsis. Synapsis is fundamental to learning and memory formation.
Our understandings of what memories are made of at the level of cellular and molecular mechanisms is quite sophisticated. Still we have plenty to learn about the whole configuration of adcquirence of memories in our brain.

Letter

Dear reader,
I'll tell you about an important memory for me.
I remember that one time, when I was a little girl, my parents gave me a gift. It was a dog called Maxi. He is a 'quiltro'. He is a great dog. He arrived to my life 8 years ago. When I was sad my dog used to play with me. This (memory) was a very important moment in my life because when I was a girl I used to dream about having a pet. Now my dog lives in my apartment with me and my family!

Kind regards, Melisa♥!

i'm thing about this unit ! C:

The hinduism is a very interesting culture of which i learn a lot in this unit.
The religion,  meditates many gods, semi gods and demons mainly related to the creation and the nature as for example Visnú (preserver) or Shivá (destructive God).
Also we have other culture, the Egyptian culture. We red a short story about this culture and the story tell us of the God Ra, he was the God most powerfull also the story tell us about his life like pharaon in egypt

The other story that we red was about abortion, this story was called "Hills of white elephant", in this story  there was a pair who decided to abort, having always in it counts the possibility of repenting and of the risks that existed. The tale i like because that it was speaking about many feelings of a metaphorical, entertaining and very interesting form.

The unit in general was very entertaining and help me to understand other points of views

Abortion & the precepts.

-For the buddhist the fertilization is when the humans life commences, but as a consequence the abortion is contrary about the first precept .

-the abortion is prohibited in everything who has a PAÑA an that means “life”, so in that culture the abortion is prohibited to everyone who lives like a fetus.

-in medical context is one of the bodily humours understood as the force underlying biological growth.

- any ambiguity there may be thought to be in the first precept with respect to abortion is removed to the equivalent precept in the vinaya.

- the commentary explain that the prohibition applies from the moment of conception.

- the motives reported in the sources for seeking an abortion include concealing extramarital affairs as when a married woman
pregnant by her lover.

-there are a lot of literature about abortion like the stories of “The Dhammapada”, “The petavatthu”, “Jatakas”, etc.

-Jatakas is a book and in it ,narrate the evil consequence of abortion
